I would like you all to meet someone very special....
On Saturday night my cousin Matthew--who is more like my big brother--
welcomed his son into the world.
This is Brody.
He was born weighing 1 pound and 11 ounces,
and is just over 13 inches long.
This sweet little guy was born 3 whole months early.
They have been saying that he seems pretty normal for a 26 weeker. He's a good size and so far hasn't had a lot of extra complications. But the fact remains that he's less than 2 pounds and still has a lot of developing to do. Brody will be in the hospital until his February due date. As a parent I can only imagine how hard it would be to leave your child in the NICU day after day and go home without him. It really breaks my heart that anyone would have to go through this. I remember at various points in my pregnancy being admitted to the hospital and thinking "Oh my God, what if Lucy comes at 6 months...7 months..." but for some reason that wasn't God's plan for Lucy. I don't ever pretend to understand these things but I just have faith that He has something awesome in store for Brody and his parents.
During this Thanksgiving week I hope we will all be thankful for the things we sometimes take for granted. Today I'm thankful the most challenging hurdle Lucy faces at the moment is the common cold and that we can take care of her here at home.
Please pray for our little Brody. Like I told Matthew last night with lots of prayer years from now people will be saying...
"Hey you know BIG Brody?
Yeah, the one who is a great baseball player like his Dad was?
Well, he weighed less than 2 pounds when he was born!
You would never know it by looking at him!!"
UPDATE: I will try to keep this updated but I won't bump the post up each time because there will probably be a lot of updates. I think maybe we need a Brody button here :)
November 24th~ Brody is perfect and his lungs are developing really well but there is one big complication now. He has a brain hemorrhage. There is a 1 to 4 scale of these, 4 being the worst, and Brody's is a 4. Because he's so little they can't do anything to his brain besides wait it out. He could walk out of the hospital one day and have no issues whatsoever or he could face things like Cerebral Palsy. All everyone is doing now is waiting and praying.
11/30/2010~ The follow brain scan showed that the hemorrhage is still the same, but that's good because it hasn't gotten any bigger or worse.
12/8/2010~ The latest brain scan results are in and Brody has no more bleeding! That is a huge praise. He's been having a great couple of days.
Week of 12/10-12/18~ BIG week for Brody! He had his first surgery ever and it was successful at removing the fluid build up in his brain. Matt, his Daddy, was able to hold him for the first time ever. He got his mask off that was assisting his breathing. He is over 2 pounds now. AND the big news...he might be able to go home in just 4-6 weeks! Incredible. Christmas miracles happen :) And Brody is also 1 whole month old! Countless happy and healthy months will be celebrated in this little guy's future.

How beautiful he is, but how heartbreaking to see how tiny he is. I am certainly sending up prayers for this beautiful boy and his parents! I have faith that Brody can make it through any hurdles that come his way. I have seen babies born this early grow and pass milestones with flying colors! I have no doubt Brody can too!

I know how it feels to have their baby in the nicu. We were lucky he was fine just a slight breathing problem. I will say prayers for them and the sweet little boy. Please keep us updated.
Oh my. How insanely precious. I'm sure he will pull through just fine! ♥
Wow. I've got tears in my eyes, and an ache in my heart. Sending many thoughts, prayers and much love Brody's way. Congratulations on your newest family member - I look forward to hearing how he's doing! My heart broke when my niece was in NICU and my sister couldn't hold her for a whole day - I can't imagine having to go months... lots & lots of prayers coming your way lady. XOXO
Definitely sending up prayers hun.
After having been through a NICU experience with Abbey, and seeing all the premie babies that were there during our stay - my heart goes out to your family members and to little Brody! Premie babies, and all babies, are such fighters. I will be praying for little Brody!
I am praying for them.
Oh goodness, he's tiny.
Prayers and love!
My prayers are with Brody and your family. All of my girls have spent time in the NICU and it's the hardest thing. But never for as long as that.
Many prayers for Brody to grow big and strong!
We will definitely be keeping Brody in our prayers. As a former NICU nurse I will pray specifically for his lungs, his stomach and intestines, his eyes, and his brain and for God's protection over him.
He is simply a beautiful little peanut to be sure!
Thank you for sharing and giving us the privilege of lifting him up in prayer.
Happy Thanksgiving, too.
Janet
Oh my goodness, I'm glad he's doing well, but that must be scary. That's how big my baby girl is right now! Thoughts and prayers are with baby Brody! I'm sure he'll be strong!

Hey Jacqueline. Baby Brody and family will definitely be in our prayers. Breaks my heart that such a little guy has to face this world at such a small size. I have faith though that God has everything under control and he is there holding little Brody's hand every step of the way. XOXO to Brody.
