Our First Giveaway: "Light Up Your Child's Mind"

CLOSED: Thank you all for participating!

I am so excited about giveaway! Not only because its the first one I get to do for my readers, but also because I happen to be reviewing the book that I'm giving away. Even though I'm not done with it yet, Light Up Your Child's Mind has become a parenting "must" in our house. As soon as I'm done with it Michael is going to read it.

I won't get into the whole point of the book, because that will come along with the review. The basis of the book is how to inspire your child to love learning. Whether your child has academic drive or is considered a "slacker" and someone who doesn't excel in school, he or she has gifts and talents. If your child's gift doesn't happen to be taking tests well or retaining certain subjects, then teachers and parents should be working together to uncover their strengths, instead of focusing all energies on fixing the "problem" areas.

The authors, Joseph S. Renzulli, and Sally M. Reis, propose ideas to help parents first discover their child's gifts and create a passion for using them. The use of these gifts will benefit the children in the classroom first, but then stay with them as they venture into the world on their own. This book is based on the Renzulli system which is making its way through school systems around the country. Its about time our way of looking at "gifted children" got shook up. With these principals and methods no child will "fall through the cracks." Giftedness is behavioral not a magic gene, and therefore, each child can be appreciated for their own unique gifts.

Parents of babies out there might be giving little thought to their child's future grades or what type of school they will be at later. I personally have never liked thinking about Lucy going to school. I seriously cry at the mention of that dirty word..."kindergarten." However, this book has been a great reminder that Lucy will one day have a gift for something. She'll have a desire to be, do, or make something. As she grows I hope to put to work the things I'm learning from Light Up Your Child's Mind and help guide her as she finds her purpose in life. What parent doesn't want that?

So, I am thrilled to pass on this terrific book to 5 lucky winners!

Here's how to enter:

1). Follow my blog.
2). Leave a comment to let me know you follow and give a valid email address.

That's it! On Wednesday August 26th, at 6 p.m. EST I'll choose the 5 winners with the help of Random.org. This contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada. Those with P.O. Boxes are not eligible.
